This translational presentation will review biological and clinical factors associated with pain. The role of genetics, gender and anxiety are discussed as well as important clinical factors. This evidence based lecture synthesizes biological and clinical information in order to provide the clinician with specific recommendations useful in preventing or treating endodontic pain. The specific role of occlusion in post operative pain is reviewed as well as single-appointment treatment. Pharmacological strategies are presented which emphasize meaningful information for the practitioner. At the conclusion of the presentation the participant will have an enriched understanding of the complex factors associated with endodontic pain and its prevention/treatment
